Deunan Knute was born the daughter Carl Knute, a member of Onderon's planetary defense force, and Dr. Gilliam Knute, a prominent genetic engineer researching cloning. Deunan was 3 standard years old when the Clone Wars broke out. While her father worked to help ensure Onderon's defense, her mother researched ways to supplement the Clone Army with a breed of supplemental clones meant to perform administrative and support roles, and even espionage. However, when the Separatists attacked Onderon, Gilliam Knute was killed. Carl Knute took his daughter and joined Saw Gerrerra's resistance movement. Despite the violent turn her father's life took, Deunan was kept mostly protected from it, though her father and his friend Briareos Hecatonchires began training her in combat, weapons usage, tactics, and piloting. When the Clone Wars ended with the rise of Emperor Palpatine, resulting in a time of galaxy-wide oppression, both Carl Knute opposed the empire. Carl Knute was executed for treason, leaving Deunan orphaned. Feeling he owned his friend, Briareos took Deunan and left Onderon. For years they traveled the galaxy working as soldiers of fortune, with Briareos teaching Deunan everything he knew about fighting, piloting, and operating weapons. It was during this time that Deunan changed from an awkward young girl, and blossomed into a beautiful young woman. Soon Deunan was no longer satisfied as Briareos' young ward. Instead, she became his lover. When they heard of the Rebel Alliance, they sought them out and joined, though official Alliance records show that they were officially recruited by a rebel intelligence agent known only as Hitomi. Now Briareos and Deunan are an inseparable pair, legendary as much for their unconditional love for each other as they are for their phenomenal fighting skills.
Deunan is an expert fighter. Because she is a petite woman and lacks the sheer physical strength of her beloved partner, Deunan makes up for it through speed and agility. Therefore, Deunan has become, by necessity, an expert gymnast and escape artist. Thanks to her training with Briareos, Deunan can operate any kind of weapon, from tiny hold-out blasters to the Empire's All Terrain Armored Transport. She typically carries a clone commando's Blastech DC-17m modular blaster system that she obtained from a black market arms dealer. This gives her a certain level of versatility to match Briareos and his blaster cannon. She also carries a Blastech DC-15 clone trooper's blaster pistol that once belonged to her father. Probably Deunan's greatest achievement was stealing two imperial space trooper exosuits, which she and Briareos now carry aboard their ship and use to further the cause of the Rebel Alliance. Their ship, the Olympus, is a YT-2400 stock light freighter, and is heavily customized with military grade weapons, and a hyperdrive that far exceeds what is legally permitted by imperial law. Because Briareos and Deunan were recruited by Agent Hitomi, they are most often work with her on her missions. Deunan is an open and friendly woman with an abrasive sarcasm and a healthy sense of humor. She makes friends easily and enjoys hanging out with her friends. Though the Rebel Alliance considers her to be a special forces commando, she is just as much at home behind the controls of a shuttle or in the cockpit of a starfighter. In her travels and adventures, she is often thankful for Hitomi's company, as she finds it nice to have another woman to talk to. Deunan is most loyal to Briareos and Hitomi. Where Briareos is the love of her life, Hitomi is both her unofficially adopted sister and best friend. Generally Deunan's humor and sarcasm are a perfect balance for Briareos' grim nature, and Hitomi's boundless optimism.
